Expertise

Prior to joining ISOLAS, Nicholas worked at Verralls Barristers & Solicitors between 2010 and 2013 where he acquired a wide range of experience whilst acting for clients in the Gibraltar Courts, with an emphasis on commercial, criminal and family litigation.

Nicholas then worked at Hassans International Law Firm in Gibraltar between 2013 and 2019 where his legal practice was focused on corporate and commercial law. This involved all aspects of corporate transactional work and commercial projects, including restructures, mergers and acquisitions, international tax planning, and advising high net worth individuals and families on their personal and business structures. Nicholas also acted on initial coin offerings and other distributed ledger technology matters.

Some of the more noteworthy matters that Nicholas has worked on are as follows:

  • acting for a GBP multibillion property group in relation to the continuing maintenance of numerous corporate structures;
  • acting in respect of the Gibraltar corporate aspects of the restructuring and refinance of a GBP 100 million portfolio of regional industrial, office, retail and leisure assets located across the UK;
  • acting for a number of registered charities in Gibraltar in making representations to the Government of Gibraltar which have contributed to amendments to Gibraltar’s legislation; and
  • acting for clients in criminal and family law proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court, Supreme Court, and the Court of Appeal.

What is Nicholas up to these days

Nicholas joined ISOLAS in 2019 where he has since worked closely with Neil Costa. Their varied legal practice consists of employment, family, common law, general commercial, and civil and criminal litigation with a particular emphasis on human-rights law. Nicholas also assists with corporate and commercial issues, including shareholders' disputes and insolvency litigation.

Outside the office, Nicholas is a trustee of GibSams (a Gibraltar-based charity that aims to reduce deaths by suicide by providing support to people experiencing general emotional distress) and also serves as an elected board member of the current and inaugural Law Council of Gibraltar.

Nicholas is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2010, and approved, admitted and enrolled as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Gibraltar in 2011. He was awarded a Professional Certificate of Competence in Gibraltar Tax by the University of Gibraltar in 2019.
