Meet Jonathan's team

Jonathan is a Partner at ISOLAS with a wealth of experience across the financial services, corporate advisory, regulatory and DLT practice areas.

He specialises in financial services and corporate advisory, while also advising family offices and larger private clients. He has undertaken extensive work on international collective investment schemes, advising on a variety of solutions to an international client base which includes investment managers and banks.

Jonathan has co-authored a number of articles and chapters in high-profile industry publications, such as the U.S. Chamber of Digital Commerce’s ‘Understanding Digital Tokens: Market Overviews, and Proposed Guidelines for Policymakers and Practitioners’ and the Global Legal Insights’ Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Regulations 2023 Regulation and Legal 500 Gibraltar Alternative Investment Funds. He also regularly writes on topical issues relating to collective investment schemes.

Jonathan advises regulated entities on day-to-day legal and regulatory developments affecting them. He is also regularly involved in various forms of corporate and real estate finance, including corporate restructuring, structured financing and corporate refinancing.

Jonathan was extensively involved advising the Authorised Administrator appointed by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) in connection with the first ever administration of a long-established group of company managers and professional trustees regulated in Gibraltar, which were subsequently wound up pursuant to the Financial Services Commission Act 2007. He has also co-advised GSX Limited, the Gibraltar Stock Exchange, through its licensing procedure.

Jonathan also spent six months on a part-time secondment at the GFSC.

Jonathan sat on the Company Law Reform Committee established by the Gibraltar Finance Centre Council, which led to a full-scale review of Gibraltar’s company legislation. He has also advised HM Government of Gibraltar on the introduction of legislation that allows for Limited Liability Partnerships and drafted appropriate legislation. He is authorised by the GFSC to provide directorship services and as an Insolvency Practitioner under the Insolvency Act 2011.

Jonathan has undertaken extensive work on collective investment schemes, advising on a variety of solutions to a client base which includes local and international investment managers, banks and family offices.

He sits on the board of the Gibraltar Funds and Investment Association (GFIA) as Head of the Technical Comittee which is the local body that represents the funds and investments industry, as it considers updates to legislative positions and innovative products in both the traditional asset class as well as the digital asset space. As part of this, he sits on a number of Government/Regulator working groups dealing with a variety of issues.

As part of his DLT practice, Jonathan continues to advise various blockchain businesses and start-ups on everything from raising finance to obtaining regulatory authorisation for carrying out their business activities.

He participated in the Blockchain Bundesverband (Association for the Promotion of Blockchain Technology in Germany) working group on Token Regulation and was one of the founding members of thinkBLOCKtank, a Luxembourg based non-profit organisation, bringing together some of the most respected Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology experts from more than 15 countries, aiming to provide policy recommendations at an EU and worldwide level which will allow  a proper regulated and prosperous ecosystem in regards to Digital Assets.
