Christian specialises in the Insurance & Financial Services sector, as well as advising on Corporate, Gaming and Gibraltar Company Law. He has also previously been endorsed by the Legal 500 for his Intellectual Property matters, which focus on domain name disputes and resolution.
In addition to his commercial practice, Christian has appeared before the Supreme Court of Gibraltar on a number of landmark actions, most notably the first portfolio transfer to be sanctioned by the Supreme Court between a Gibraltar long term insurance Protected Cell Company (PCC) and a non-PCC insurer.
Christian has also contributed to a number of international publications, including the Gibraltar chapters of Thomson Reuter’s ‘Comparative Overview of Insurance and Reinsurance Law and Regulation’ and ‘The Insurance and Reinsurance Review’, as published by Law Business Research.
What is Christian up to these days
Christian has recently advised in relation to the winding-up proceedings, provisional liquidation and liquidation of two Gibraltar insurers. He has also been kept busy advising on a number of new insurance company applications to the FSC, as well as in relation to the acquisition of a Gibraltar general insurer by a South African plc.
Christian was also involved in the successful AIM stock market flotation of a Gibraltar licensed gaming operator, as well as acting on the first cross border merger application to be granted by the Supreme Court between a Spanish gaming company and a Gibraltar gaming plc, under the Gibraltar Companies (Cross-Border Merger) Regulations.
In terms of Financial Services, Christian recently secured a professional trustee category licence from the FSC for an International QROPS Provider, and advised the Gibraltar Government in relation to the development of Gibraltar as an Insurance Linked Securities (ILS) jurisdiction within the European Union. Christian has also formed part of the Solvency II Directive working group established by the Gibraltar Government.
Christian is also currently undertaking a part-time secondment at the Financial Services Commission pursuant to the Legislative Reform Programme, a joint initiative by HM Government of Gibraltar and the Financial Services Commission to deliver a streamlined legislative and regulatory framework for financial and professional services in Gibraltar. This initiative is widely considered as a key part of the continued development of Gibraltar’s burgeoning financial services sector.
