Joey P. Garcia is part of the Commercial team at Isolas focusing on private client work and funds. He was called to the Bar in 2005 and represents the fifth generation of ISOLAS lawyers to come through the family firm.
Joey has built up a strong Funds practice advising on a variety of structures and solutions to an international client base which includes investment managers and banks as well as family offices and larger private clients. He has also advised international banks on share ownership schemes and handles a variety of private client matters. Joey was extensively involved in the set up and ongoing operation of the Kusuma Trust (Gibraltar), a large international Charitable organization based in Gibraltar. He is also currently enrolled with the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association and sits on the Board of a number of Gibraltar Experienced Investor Funds from a compliance angle.
Joey has been involved with the Gibraltar Finance Centre as a moderator and speaker on the Gibraltar Funds Seminar Program and has contributed to the Hedge Fund Review Legal Round Table supplement and discussion for two consecutive years. He has also contributed to the International Fund Investment, Hedge Fund Week and IFC publications as well as The Lawyer’s yearly offshore special reports and Mondaq.com. He is an active member of the Gibraltar Funds & Investment Association (GFIA) and forms part of the GFIA Technical Committee which deals with legislative issues relating to Gibraltar Funds.
He has also designed and launched his own website dedicated to Gibraltar Funds for information purposes which is available at www.gibraltar-funds.com and contains a blog on recent developments in the industry.
Joey is currently engaged in the establishment of a number of Gibraltar funds, and developing a strategy to assist non-UCITS fund managers understand the requirements of the proposed AIFM Directive. In addition to this, Joey recently completed work on the establishment of Gibraltar’s first Shariah compliant fund and developing new opportunities and procedures for Non-EU based funds to re-domicile to Gibraltar.
