Joey Garcia is part of the Financial Services and Funds team at Isolas . He was called to the Bar in 2005 and represents the fifth generation of ISOLAS lawyers to come through the family firm. He is ranked by Chambers & Partners as an ‘up and coming’ lawyer and is credited with establishing the firm’s emerging funds practice.
Joey has advised on a variety of structures and solutions to an international client base which includes funds, investment managers and banks as well as family offices and larger private clients. He advises a number of Funds, Investment Managers and locally based brokers on regulatory, operational, passporting and distribution issues. In 2010/2011 Joey lead the ISOLAS Funds team to the Funddomiciles.com award for best Funds law firm in Gibraltar. The only award of its kind for funds law firms in Gibraltar.
In addition to the above he has advised international banks on transactions relating to project finance operations and on share ownership schemes as well as handling a variety of private client matters for long standing clients of the firm. Joey was extensively involved in the set up and ongoing operation of the Kusuma Trust (Gibraltar), a large charitable organisation, as a Trustee. He is also currently enrolled with the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association and sits on the Board of a number of Gibraltar Experienced Investor Funds from a compliance and corporate governance angle.
Joey has been involved with the Gibraltar Finance Centre as a moderator and speaker on the Gibraltar Funds Seminar Program and has contributed to the Hedge Fund Review Legal Round Table supplement and discussion for two consecutive years. He has also contributed to the International Fund Investment, Hedge Fund Week and IFC publications as well as The Lawyer’s yearly offshore special reports and Mondaq.com. He is an active member of the Gibraltar Funds & Investment Association (GFIA) and forms part of the GFIA Technical Committee where he has been involved in the redrafting of the Gibraltar Experienced Investor Funds Legislation, and in dealing with legislative issues relating to Gibraltar Funds.
He has also designed and launched his own website dedicated to Gibraltar Funds for information purposes which is available at www.gibraltar-funds.com and contains a twitter feed on recent developments in the industry.
Joey is currently engaged in the establishment of a number of Gibraltar funds, and focusing on the new UCITS IV Legislation. .In 2011 Joey worked on the launch of the new Hideaways Club (City Collection) Fund, and has been advising a number of Investment managers in relation to their establishment in Gibraltar, and the re-domiciliation of their funds into Gibraltar.
