Chief Minister officially names the 'Peter Isola Promenade'

In a short ceremony this morning, the Chief Minister officially named the 600 metre promenade around the Mid Harbours Marina as the ‘Peter Isola Promenade.’ Surrounded by members of today’s Isola family, Mr Picardo removed the sign’s cover and revealed the promenade’s new name.

After the ceremony, the Chief Minister said, ‘I have taken great pleasure today in unveiling, with Mrs Rosie Isola MBE, the sign naming the promenade along the new Mid Harbours Marina "Peter Isola Promenade" after Peter Isola Snr. Mr Isola was a member of the Legislative Council, Member of the House of Assembly, Leader of the Opposition and a Minister. He was also, importantly, the other Gibraltarian politician who attended, alongside Sir Joshua Hassan, the meetings of the United Nations Committee of 24 and the Fourth Committee of the General Assembly to plead Gibraltar's case in the nineteen sixties. It is right to honour him and remember his work for Gibraltar in this way. It has been a pleasure to see his widow, Rosie, and the rest of his family value  this recognition of the work he did and the sacrifices he made for Gibraltar. I am proud to call one of his son's, Albert, a friend and ministerial colleague.’
